Federal vs provincial holidays

The Canada Labour Code lists the general holidays for federally regulated workplaces such as banks, airlines and telecoms. Everyone else is covered by provincial or territorial employment standards, which differ: Family Day in February (most provinces), Saint-Jean-Baptiste in Quebec (24 June), Civic Holiday in August in several provinces, and so on. When a holiday falls on a day off, employees are generally entitled to another paid day — usually the next working day.

Long weekends and travel in 2027

Victoria Day, Labour Day and Thanksgiving are always Mondays, and Canada Day falls on a Thursday in 2027, so many people take Friday 2 July off for a four-day weekend. Easter is early (Good Friday 26 March), which suits spring skiing in the Rockies.
