National holidays and cuti bersama
Indonesia's holidays are fixed each year by a joint decree of the Ministers of Religious Affairs, Manpower and Administrative Reform. Besides the national holidays (libur nasional), the decree sets cuti bersama — collective leave days that civil servants take off and that are deducted from annual leave. Private companies may follow them but are not obliged to.
2027 is unusual: because the Islamic year is shorter than the solar year, Isra Mikraj falls twice, on 5 January and again on 26 December.
Travel tips for 2027
The Lebaran (Idul Fitri) exodus, or mudik, from 9 to 15 March is the busiest travel period of the year: toll roads, trains and flights are packed. On Nyepi (Monday 8 March) Bali shuts down for 24 hours — the airport closes and visitors must stay inside their hotels. See where to stay in Bali.
