How Saudi holidays work

Saudi Arabia uses the Umm al-Qura calendar for official purposes, and public holidays are limited to a few occasions. Private-sector entitlements are set by the labour law's executive regulations (four days for each Eid, plus Founding Day and National Day), while the length of the government Eid break is announced by royal order each year — often longer, around a week or more. Banks follow the Saudi Central Bank schedule, which gives 7–11 March and 16–20 May 2027 for the Eid periods.

Founding Day (22 February) commemorates the founding of the first Saudi state in 1727 and became a holiday in 2022.

Travel tips for 2027

Ramadan is expected to begin around 8 February 2027. Hajj takes place around Arafat Day (15 May), when travel to Makkah is restricted to permit holders and flights across the region are busy. See Eid al-Adha 2027.
